I’ve learned a whole lot about hearing aids. The days when I’d insert mine into my ear and hear better without it than with it are long past. I have only one ear that works, the other is totally gone so its important that the ear that CAN work does. Don’t feel bad for me. I manage.
I now know how important it is to clean them properly before putting them aside each night.
My fabulous audiologist/friend Grace has taught me to remove the battery and carefully clean the aids so they’re super ready to pop into my ear come morning.
No matter how tired I am, paying attention to my hearing aid every evening is a MUST.
I also recommend letting your friends know you have a hearing problem. The ARE your friends after all and want you to be as comfortable as possible when you spend time with them.
The other thing to realize is there are some restaurants which are just impossible to visit if you have a hearing problem. It has something to do with how it is built. Just avoid those.
My son Rafi has bought me some helpful items to watch Netflix with AND hear what they’re saying as well.
Because I love people and talking with them, I am grateful for my hearing aids. However when COVID hit, it was more difficult for we who do have hearing problems to understand what people said to us. We all lip-read to some extent and can’t manage that when someone is wearing a mask.
